Abstract

Secondary abstract: The goal of this paper was to determine what was the change in use of selfprotecting mechanisms in the past 10 years. Through humans life there is a lot of obstacles, danger, unsecurity, risks, decisions and through all, there is a possibility of victimisation which is influenced by diferent factors like social networks, age, sex, social and economical standards, etc. That is why victimised people got bigger fear of crime. Crime is inevitable in all societies and it is increasing by day. It decreases citizens trust in represive organs, provides limited economical growth and decreases productivity in every day life. I came to conclusion that people feel relatively safe in their hometown. The survey also showed that women have higher level of fear in daily life then men therefore they use selfprotecting mechanisms more frequently then men, althought many studies show that the victimization of women is rare. Depending on the status, there have been observed some differences too. People with low educational level feel the safest, but the people with masters degree or doctors degree feel most unsafe by their opinion. In the matter of place of residence the safest are people who live in countryside, in the residential houses. The most unsafe by their opinion are people who live in a small, lonely cities, but the trend is changing because the difference between the city and country is getting blurier. Crime cannot be stopped just by represive organs. Key factor is cooperation between citizens and state authorities on a basic knowledge of better working together then alone.
