Abstract

Zaradi odvisnosti posameznik zanemarja in opušča družinske, delovne in družbene dolžnosti.

Secondary title: Alchocol dependence and the importance of communication during rehabilitation
Secondary abstract: Alcoholism is a disease which manifests itself in individuals in the form of physical, mental and social consequences. Because of alcohol dependence the alcoholic neglects and fails to perform family, work and social obligations. Hospital treatment is increasingly required. The purpose of this thesis is to establish whether the number of hospitalizations for alcohol dependence treatment decreased or increased between 2007 and 2011, and to determine the difference in the number of males and females. In addition, we tried to determine the most common mental disorders which occur simultaneously with alcohol dependence. In the empirical part of the thesis, quantitative methodology and the comparative research method were used. The data was acquired from the register of patients at the Department of Psychiatry of the University Medical Centre Maribor, for the period between 2007 - 2011. The data analysis showed that the number of hospitalisations has decreased in the last two years. The most common psychiatric disorder which occurs simultaneously with the treatment is the alcohol dependence syndrome (International Classification of Diseases, version 10: F10.2). The number of hospitalizations because of alcohol dependence is lower in the case of males. In alcohol dependence prevention we try to achieve a minimum use of alcohol with different programmes. If we want the treatment to be successful, we need to adapt to the individual fully, and not focus only on the problem of alcohol dependence. When treating alcohol dependence, therapy group work and a good knowledge of communication techniques are of great importance.
