Abstract

Secondary title: Dance in slovenian folk tradition
Secondary abstract: The graduation thesis researches Dance in Slovenian folk tradition. The theoretical part describes and defines Slovenian folk tradition and the importance of its preservation. It classifies Slovenian folk tradition into folk music, folk dance, folk games, customs and habits and oral tradition. Each area of Slovenian folk tradition is described separately, as all areas are strongly related to dance. Finally, the thesis features an interview with a 85-year-old lady about her memories of events that she happily remembers, as people in her day had a lot of fun, sang and danced in addition to hard work. Dance is an integral part of folk tradition, but there are relatively few records that deal with dance only, compared to other traditions. We can often conclude that dance was intertwined with singing, lyrics and customs. Therefore, the graduation thesis considers dance in the context of the whole folk tradition and also includes authors from other fields. In folk tradition, dance is strongly intertwined with music, storytelling, games and superstitions; it should therefore be considered holistically in this regard.
