Abstract

V teoretičnem delu so predstavljene poškodbe glave in vratne hrbtenice, metode ocenjevanja zavesti in metode oskrbe dihalne poti.

Secondary title: Nursing of a patient with head and cervical vertebrae injury
Secondary abstract: The goal of this diploma paper was to find out if Slovene emergency medical personnel’s knowledge of how to treat patients with head and cervical vertebrae injury is consistent with international guidelines. We also wanted to present emergency medical personnel’s work and methods used when dealing with the above-mentioned injuries, as well as present different methods of assessing consciousness of patients and accessories that are most used in the field. Diploma paper consists of a theoretical and empirical part. Theoretical part includes presentation of head and cervical vertebrae injuries, methods of assessing consciousness and methods of breathing path care. Empirical part consists of the questionnaire, answered by 62 employees (junior nurses and nurses) from units of emergency medical care in Maribor, Celje, Lenart and Gornja Radgona. The aim of this research was to figure out how often participants deal with head and cervical vertebrae injuries, what methods of immobilization are used in the field, how they rate their knowledge about head and cervical vertebrae injuries, which methods of additional education on the subject they use, and to test their knowledge about methods of assessing consciousness. Results show that Slovene emergency medical personnel’s knowledge of head and cervical vertebrae injuries is in compliance with international guidelines. We also identified areas on which participants could complement their knowledge about the said injuries.
