magistrsko delo
Abstract
V magistrskem delu smo analizirali prevode frazemov v slikanici Slovenske ljudske pravljice (1992) in angleškem prevodu Slovenian Folk Tales (2002) prevajalke Lili Potpara. V teoretičnem delu smo opisali zbirko Slovenske ljudske pravljice, predstavili pravljico in prevajanje otroške književnosti, razložili pojem frazeologije in osnovno frazeološko enoto ter se posvetili prevajanju frazemov in strategijam prevajanja frazemov. V empiričnem delu smo analizirali prevode frazemov in jih uvrstili v ustrezne kategorije prevajanja po Moni Baker, ki jih predlaga v delu In Other Words: A Coursebook on Translation (2011). Namen analize je ugotoviti, ali so frazemi ustrezno prevedeni, za katere strategije se je prevajalka odločala, katere strategije je uporabila najpogosteje in ali je kakšen frazem izpustila.

Translating idioms from Slovene to English in the picture book "Slovenian folk tales" |
Secondary abstract: |
Translating idioms in children's literature is challenging as translators need to focus on several factors, such as the age of children, understanding of idioms, and norms and morals acceptable to children. To recognize and understand idioms in the text, the translator should also have knowledge of the source and target language and their cultures. If the translator can focus on children's understanding of idioms and at the same time on both language systems, then the translation will be effective and understandable. While translating idioms, translators can use different translation strategies. In the master thesis, we analyzed translations of idioms in the picture book Slovenske ljudske pravljice (1992) and its English translation Slovenian Folk Tales (2002), translated by Lili Potpara. In the theoretical part, we described the collection of Slovenian Folk Tales, introduced the fairy tale genre and translation of children's literature, explained the term phraseology and basic phraseological unit, and focused on translating idioms and strategies for translating idioms. In the empirical part, we analyzed the translations of idioms and classified them into appropriate translation categories based on Mona Baker and her book In Other Words: A Coursebook on Translation (2011). The purpose of the analysis was to determine whether the idioms were properly translated, which strategies the translator decided to use, which were used most often, and if any omissions occurred. |
