Abstract

Glorious Revolution).

Secondary title: Scotland from the Reformation to the Glorious Revolution with a Specific Focus on the Status of Women
Secondary abstract: Scottish history is generally overshadowed by English history, which is fairly well known to the general public. A closer look at Scotland's history reveals that examining its past is anything but simple and uninteresting. The content of this thesis focuses on the Kingdom of Scotland during the turbulent Early Modern Period; more specifically, it focuses on the period from the beginning of the Reformation to the Glorious Revolution. At the time, Scotland was importantly marked by the reign of two minor rulers and, consequently, by the events connected to internal and foreign policy. New religious views emerged and spread, political systems changed rapidly, Scotland became more closely attached to and even subordinated to the Kingdom of England, although it had certainly co-shaped the events in the British Isles over the previous centuries and had had a significant impact on the outcomes of these events, etc. All these events triggered a series of conflicts, and they also affected the Scottish society at the time. Additionally, the thesis analyses a special subject, the status and the role of women in Scotland in the Early Modern Period, which was overlooked by scientific researchers for a long time.
