Abstract

Omejitve: Omejitvene dejavnike pripisujemo nenatančnemu in neenotnemu definiranju uporabljenih protokolov, majhnemu številu preiskovancev v študijah in njihovemu osipu.

Secondary title: Efficiency of physiotherapeutic treatment of patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
Secondary abstract: Introduction and purpose: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is the most common form of motor neuron disease, affecting both lower and upper motor neuron. Treatment of patients with ALS is complex and a multidisciplinary team can make a positive impact on the quality and prolongation of patients’ lives through symptomatic treatment. The aim of this thesis is to review the literature on the effectiveness of physiotherapeutic treatment in ALS patients. We want to emphasize the important role of physiotherapy in improving the patient's independence and exploiting their full potential despite a chronic and rapidly progressive disease. Methods: A systematic review of the literature on the effectiveness of physiotherapy in ALS patients was conducted using Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, Cochrane library and PEDro databases. The literature included was published between 2010 and 2021. Results: Based on 19 included studies we have found that certain techniques of kinesiotherapy, respiratory physiotherapy and pain relief therapy show a positive effect on improving function, reducing respiratory dysfunction, increasing patient's independence, improving quality of life and prolonging the life expectancy of ALS patients. Usability: Presentation of a set of effective physiotherapeutic methods and techniques suitable for the treatment of ALS patients. Limitations: Limitations are attributed to imprecise and non-uniform definition of used protocols, small number of subjects and their drop-out.
