diplomsko delo univerzitetnega študijskega programa Varstvoslovje
Abstract

Discrimination of women in the police |
Secondary abstract: |
The discriminatory treatment of women in male-dominated professions is becoming more common and noticeable. Police work is undoubtedly one of the occupations perceived as male-oriented by the general public.
The thesis mostly discusses the discrimination of women in the police force and the struggles they face on a daily basis if they become police officers, as well as the advantages of women in the police.
The thesis consists of the theoretical and experimental part.
Theoretical part deals with the definition of discrimination in general for a better understanding of what the discrimination of women in police force means. It also presents different perspectives on the issue in different countries.
Experimental part first describes the online questionnaire used for research, followed by an analysis of the results we received. The purpose of this research was to discover the opinion of Slovenian residents about discrimination, integration of women in the police work, the advantages of integration of women in the police force and to discover whether they believe police work is male-oriented. In the end, 244 respondents responded to the questionnaire. The results show that the respondents believe female police officers undergo discriminatory treatment in the police work, and that they experience a greater level of discrimination than their male colleagues do. We also discovered that they believe a greater number of women should be integrated in the police force, that they see the advantages of there being more women involved in this profession and that the job of a police officer is not predominantly male-focused. |
