Abstract

Secondary abstract: The paper analyses the speech of current members of the Government of the Republic of Croatia. The most important goal of their public speech is to convince the public that the principles they advocate serve the common good. They should speak standard Croatian language which is an obligation in formal situations and has codified rules. However, most of the analysed politicians have not learned to do this, so their dialectal features are very common in their speeches. Deviations from standard speech, stylistic, populist elements and persuasion are analysed.
