Bitki pri Termopilah in Salamini v luči sodobne popularne kulture (filma 300 in 300: Vzpon imperija)

Abstract

Grško-perzijske vojne so se odvijale že pred več kot 2.400 leti, a še vedno vzbujajo zanimanje. Pred malo več kot 15 leti je v kinematografe po vsem svetu prišel film 300 in nam na filmskem platnu prikazal bitko pri Termopilah, ki se je zgodila leta 480 pr. n. št. med grškimi polis in perzijskim imperijem. Pred natanko 8 leti pa je v kinematografe po vsem svetu prišel še film 300: Vzpon imperija in prikazal bitko pri Salamini, ki se je zgodila nekaj mesecev kasneje kot bitka pri Termopilah med istima rivaloma. Pomembno vlogo v prvi bitki na strani Grkov je imela Sparta oziroma Leonidas, v drugi bitki pa Atene oziroma Temistokles. Ti dve bitki sta perzijskemu kralju Kserksu dokazali, da številčnost ne pomeni veliko in da je včasih bolje premisliti kot ukrepati. V magistrskem delu je bila pozornost posvečena primerjavi bitke pri Termopilah in bitke pri Salamini v filmih s prikazom v zgodovinskih virih.

Secondary abstract:	The Greco-Persian Wars took place more than 2,400 years ago, but they still arouse interest. A little over 15 years ago, the movie 300 hit cinemas around the world and showed us on the big screens the Battle of Thermopylae, which took place in 480 BC between the Greek polis and the Persian Empire. Exactly 8 years ago, the movie 300: Rise of an Empire came to cinemas around the world and showed the Battle of Salamis, which took place a few months later than the Battle of Thermopylae between the same rivals. Sparta and Leonidas played an important role on the side of the Greeks in the first battle, while Athens and Themistocles played an important role in the second battle. These two battles proved to the Persian king Xerxes that numbers do not mean much and that sometimes it is better to think than to act. In the master's thesis, attention was paid to the comparison of the Battle of Thermopylae and the Battle of Salamis in films with the depiction in historical sources.
