Abstract

Raziskava obravnava model uvedbe zasebnega oblaka za Fakulteto za matematiko in fiziko Univerze v Ljubljani. Opredeljeni so osnovni pojmi računalništva v oblaku in produktov VMware, ki so uporabljeni za postavitev oblaka. Predstavljeno je tehnično ozadje vzpostavitve zasebnega oblaka ter problemi, ki so prisotni pri postavitvi ter vzdrževanju obstoječega sistema. Med glavnimi problemi sta neskladnost posameznih delov programske opreme in nezmožnost zamenjave ali posodobitve programske opreme med šolskim letom zaradi zasedenosti predavalnic. Za potrebe testiranja je bil vzpostavljen zasebni oblak s produkti VMware na strojni opremi, ki je ustrezala minimalnim zahtevam. Testiranje je obsegalo delo treh skupin uporabnikov navideznih okolij. Skupine uporabnikov so zajemale vzdrževalce sistema, zahtevne uporabnike, ki določajo funkcionalnost delovnih okolij, ter navadne uporabnike, ki za njih pripravljena delovna okolja zgolj uporabljajo. Glavne ugotovitve testiranja so, da s tehničnega vidika zasebni oblak nudi veliko prilagodljivost dela, dosegljivost različnih okolij, prav tako pa tudi poenostavi vzdrževanje in poveča uporabnost informacijskega sistema. Tako zasebni oblak nudi vse, kar manjka obstoječemu sistemu. Stroški uvedbe modela zasebnega oblaka so ocenjeni na 124.000 EUR. Analiza stroškov in koristi pa razkriva, da ima obstoječi sistem na letni ravni za 21 odstotkov višje stroške od zasebnega oblaka. Tako z ekonomskega vidika uvedba zasebnega oblaka na ravni fakultete ni smiselna, saj bi se stroški povrnili šele po petih letih. Gledano le z ekonomskega stališča pa bi bilo bolj smiselno uvesti skupinski oblak na nivoju univerze.

Secondary abstract: The presented research deals with an introduction of private cloud model for the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics University of Ljubljana. It defines the basic concepts of cloud computing and VMware products, which were used to set up a cloud. Presented are technical background for establishing a private cloud and the problems involved in setting up and maintaining of the existing system. Among the main problems of the existing system are incompatibilities of the individual parts of the software and the inability to replace or upgrade software throughout the school year because of occupancy of lecture rooms. For the purpose of testing a private cloud was set up with VMware products on the hardware satisfying minimal requirements. Testing is encompassed the work of the three groups of users of virtual environments. User groups included the maintainers, demanding users, which set own functionality of working environments, and plain users, that only use for them set working environment. The main findings of the test are, that from a technical point of view it is clear, that a private cloud provides great flexibility in the work, availability of different environments, simplifies maintenance and increase usefulness of the whole information system. So the private cloud offers everything what is missing in the current system. The cost of deploying a private cloud model is estimated at 124.000 EUR. Cost-benefit analysis reveals that the current system has 21 percent over budget on an annual basis comparing the private cloud. So from an economic perspective the introduction of private cloud on the faculty does not make much sense, because the costs would reimburse only after five years. Purely from economic point of view it would be better to build a cloud for the whole university.
