Abstract

Secondary title: The pandemic, teleworking and a change in the sustainable urbanism paradigm
Secondary abstract: During the pandemic it has been possible to identify various potential directions for (future) urban development. The main goal of the research is to analyse current indications and tendencies that point to future post-pandemic residential choices of urban residents. The research analysis shows that one possible urban development option entails intensification of the suburbanisation process and mass migration to smaller settlements with a lower urban density. The second possibility suggests changing the composition of the existing urban fabric so as to support high population density, a sustainable urban transformation, and the digitalisation of cities with a stress on the widespread use of teleworking. When applied synergistically and complementarily with other socio-spatial measures, teleworking provides an excellent tool for mitigating the pandemic's negative effects.
