Abstract

Secondary title: The attitude of nurses towards euthanasia
Secondary abstract: Introduction: Euthanasia is deliberate application of lethal drugs with the aim of painlessly ending a patient's life with an incurable disease. We know several types of euthanasia, but the biggest difference is between active and passive euthanasia. Nurses are of key importance in dealing with the issue of medically assisted death, because they're the ones who are most often faced with it. The purpose of the final work is to present the attitude of nurses towards euthanasia. Methods: We used a narrative review of scientific literature. We used the following databases: CINAHL, PubMed and ScienceDirect. The selection process is presented with PRISMA diagram and we also carried out thematic analysis and data synthesis. Results: From the 586 articles that we have found, 10 were included in the final analysis. We find that the attitude towards euthanasia is very different between the nurses and that their opinion is influenced by many factors such as gender, field of work, age and education level. We also concluded that the nurses play an extremely important role throughout the euthanasia process.
