magistrsko delo

Abstract

Secondary title: The importance of different literacies in recognizing pseudoscience
Secondary abstract: In our master's thesis, we examined how different literacies predict the ability to recognize pseudoscience, focusing on four different types of literacy, namely media, information, digital and news literacy. We wanted to find out which forms of literacy play the most important role in determining the success of identifying pseudoscientific content. We were also interested in the role of attitudes on the ability to recognize pseudoscientific content, focusing on attitudes toward vaccination and attitudes toward homeopathy. The results of the study thus showed that the accurate identification of pseudoscience content was significantly related above all to media and news literacy, but we concluded that the individual's personal attitudes towards the topic in question play a greater role in the perception of pseudoscience than different literacies. Since our master's thesis is one of the few studies that examine the connection between pseudoscience and different literacies, our research could represent a means of reducing the effects of pseudoscience and its power on society and individuals.
