Abstract

Secondary title: Determination of the elemental composition of stalactites from underground tunnels of the Tezno zone
Secondary abstract: Stalactites are crystalline formations formed by layered siga on the walls of a cave. Limestone or calcite is excreted from dripping water when CO2 is removed. Limestone is composed mainly of calcium carbonate. For quantitative analysis of stalactites from underground tunnels of the Tezno zone in Maribor, I used SEM/EDS spot analysis and optical emission spectrometry using inductively coupled plasma to determine the presence and proportion of various metals that may be present in the samples. Using a scanning electron microscope, I performed a surface analysis of stalactites to determine the structure of stalactites. Samples T1 and T2 were taken from the tunnel ceiling, samples Č1 and Č2 were taken from the tunnel ceiling at the water pumping station, and sample T3 was taken from the tunnel floor. Calcium carbonate predominates in all samples and also there are some other metals in the samples.
