(diplomsko delo)
Abstract
Pridobljeni podatki so bili sistematizirani, analizirani in vključeni v diplomsko delo. Živali pomagajo premagovati družbeno izoliranost in vzpodbujajo socialne stike, prinašajo lahkotnost, ljubeznivost in dajejo občutek neogroženosti. Aktivnosti in terapija s pomočjo živali sta odlični komplementarni metodi dela, ki sta uporabni v vseh okoljih, še posebej v institucionalnih oblikah pomoči.

Secondary abstract: |
This thesis presents animal-assisted activities and therapy, and the influence of animals on elderly people. The purpose of the thesis is to present the problem of loneliness of elderly people and highlight the importance of the positive effects of animals on elderly.
Further goals are; knowing the changes and needs in the life of elderly people, introducing animal-assisted activities and therapy, and comparing its use in Slovenia to the rest of the world. We have chosen the descriptive method on grounds of expert literature. The data obtained have been systematized, analyzed and included in the thesis. Expert literature shows, that loneliness is the most common emotion when it comes to the elderly. Reasons are: social isolation, discrimination, lack of social life and certain physical disorders. Many physical, psychological and emotional changes occur as people get older. Taking care and spending time with animals is a great way to fight loneliness. Animals are constant and help us spend our time; make us laugh, and offer a feeling of safety in a fast changing world. The physical contact with animals is of great importance, since it encourages us and makes us happy. Animals help relieve social exclusion, encourage social contact, give a sense of ease, kindness and privilege. Animal-assisted activities and therapy are an excellent complementary method, which can be used in all surroundings, especially in institutional care. Under animal-assisted activities and therapy we understand all of the actions, for which the planned use of animals achieved positive responses to the user. Animal-assisted activities and therapy are present in Slovenia, but in a smaller amount than in other countries. In countries like Austria, Italy and England this kind of therapy is included into the health system. Animals can brighten life in old age and helps to alleviate the life difficulties which elderly face. Animal power, love, energy and other benefits, should be more aware of and benefit from. |
