Abstract

Uvod: Rak dojke je najpogostejši rak v ženski populaciji. Bolezen in zdravljenje povzročata pri ženskah spremembe in vplivata na kakovost življenja v času zdravljenja in po njem.

Secondary title: WOMEN WITH BREAST CANCER AND THEIR EXPERIENCE SEXUALITY
Secondary abstract: Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women. The disease and treatment cause changes and influence the quality of living during the treatment as well as afterwards. Women are facing numerous side effects of treatment, which often leads to sexual dysfunctions. Prevalence of sexual disorders in women with breast cancer is between 30 to 100 %. The purpose of the research was to establish how the women with breast cancer experience sexuality, what is the scope of their sexual activity and their knowledge about the side effects of treatment on their sexual life. Research methodology: quantitative research was based on a questionnaire about sexual life prior to the disease and on L. Fallowfield’s Sexual Activity Questionnaire. Data was processed in excel table and with software SPSS 17; the sexual activity questionnaire was processed according to the author’s instructions. For the quantitative analysis, the respondents received a questionnaire in written form. We performed a text analysis on the answers. The research included 300 patients that were being monitored after the disease, 50 patients on treatment and 5 patients from each of 2 groups for the qualitative analysis. Results: 56 % of patients responded to the invite. It was established that at the time of research, the respondents were statistically significantly less sexually active that in the period prior to the disease (p<0,05). Considering the age structure, the respondents over the age of 50 were significantly less sexually active than the respondents under 50 (p<0,05). For the sexually active respondents, we also implemented an assessment of satisfaction, discomfort and comparability of sexual habits, but there were no definite statistically significant deviations among the categories of respondents. Conclusion: the research established that breast cancer patients experience changes in sexuality that are also caused by other reasons. The problems can be mitigated by appropriate and timely counseling and support.
