Abstract

Secondary title: Fluid flow analysis in a venturi wet scrubber
Secondary abstract: The aim of the diploma thesis is to create a numerical model of a Venturi wet scrubber and to determine the pressure losses in the device. In the thesis, the pressure losses were determined using an analytical calculation that focuses on the venturi throat. From the analytical calculation, it is found that the largest pressure loss occurs in the Venturi part and then in the part of the device where the tube bundles are installed. After the analytical calculation, a numerical model is prepared using computational fluid dynamics, which, in contrast to the analytical case, includes only the gas phase, since modeling the two-phase flow is beyond the capabilities of a dissertation at the current stage of the study. As part of the preparation of the numerical model, the geometry of the numerical model, the computational grid, and the boundary conditions under which the device operates were established. A comparison of the results of the numerical model, which includes only the gas phase, with the results of the analytical calculation, which includes both the solid and droplet phases, shows a good qualitative agreement of the pressure losses corresponding to the various geometric and process changes of the system. A quantitative comparison of the results shows that we have lower pressure losses in the numerical simulation than in the analytical calculation, which is to be expected since the numerical simulation does not include any droplet phase in the considered system.
