diplomski seminar

Abstract

Secondary title: Library use for study for study purposes
Secondary abstract: This graduate seminar discusses the use of public libraries among the student population. The purpose of the research was to examine the architectural trends of modern public libraries and the use of their spaces by students. With the method of the semi-structured interview, and a sample of thirty students, I attempted to find out more about their satisfaction with, and perception of, the libraries' conditions, and what distinguishes public libraries from others, in terms of student needs. Special emphasis was placed on students in the Šiška Library, who account for 43.3% of the total sample. Students expressed satisfaction with the conditions of the visited libraries, despite certain complaints. They confirmed that the library as a place has a positive effect on their motivation and concentration in learning. Independent learning turned out to be the most common study activity, while group learning is relatively rare. In relation to this, differences between genders have also been observed, where male students turned out to be more extraverted in their studying styles, with the female students therefore more introverted. The field of student needs in libraries is quite complex, due to their heterogeneity and constant change. It would be sensible to carry out more research, perhaps periodic, and introduce more tools for the continuous evaluation of user needs and the quality of library services.
