diplomsko delo univerzitetnega študija Organizacija dela

Abstract

Secondary title: BALANCING WORK AND PRIVATE LIVES OF WOMEN
Secondary abstract: An individual can only be successful provided they have a balanced private and professional lives, and the other way round. In everyday life women are daily faced with the challenge how to best balance their professional and private lives, therefore the decision to study this particular challenge in a thesis has been taken. Deriving from a number of theoretical findings this thesis presents the factors that influence the way of balancing professional and family obligations - by obligation we understand a variety of tasks to be done at work and those at home. The thesis further presents the role played by the state when balancing professional and private lives as well as successful case studies taken form other EU member states. The importance of employers in balancing professional and private lives is also mentioned; last but not least, each individual can contribute a lot to this process by organizing their own life in a suitable way. Another aim of the thesis is also to gather data on temporary situation among the women employed in state administration, private sector and a social security institution, and present good examples of individual women in the area of balancing professional and private lives. Our research confirmed the supposition that the quality of professional and private lives are related. The thesis does also manage to confirm the supposition that women who are employed in private sector and a social security institution balance their professional schedules to their private needs with varying difficulty compared to their counterparts employed in state administration. With that it is understood that those women work on flexitime, for example they have a possibility to start work later or leave it sooner in case of unpredictable family obligations.
