Abstract

Secondary abstract: Folk singing in Slovenia is the most recognizable sign of preservation of our ancestors' musical cultural heritage. There is no literature on folk singing in the Lower Savinja Valley that covers the history and activities of the folk singing groups of this area or a description of the events which the folk singing groups present themselves. The theoretical part covers the origin, history and functioning of all groups of folk singers of the Lower Savinja Valley with the help of the historical and descriptive method and presents events the purpose of which it is to preserve folk singing. The thesis features an overview of the performing groups and the number of groups at the presented events. It also presents Slovenian folk music and indicates the directions that are important when transcribing folk polyphony and the directions that are crucial when recreating a folk song. The thesis also clarifies the differences between the choral arrangements. The practical part lists and analyses the polyphony of four folk songs that are in the repertoire of groups of folk singers of the Lower Savinja Valley. Arrangements were written for these pieces for mixed choir.
