Abstract

Secondary title: Apple in School and Sustainable Development
Secondary abstract: Sustainable development is an important guide to a better life for all and in all areas of life. The diploma work shows a connection between sustainable development and consumption of apples at school. The basis of our research was an invitation to tender for a project Apple in School by the Ministry of Education and Sport of the Republic of Slovenia. We made an interview on eating habits of students in the first trimester. The research covered five schools near Celje. We were interested in what teachers do to encourage pupils to eat more apples. We found out that there are quite a few schools near Celje that offer apples to their pupils. Results showed that pupils at school eat apples in any form however they mostly eat the entire apple. At schools that offer apples 70 % of pupils would eat one while at those that do not offer apples only 25 % would eat an apple. Encouraging pupils to eat apples results in more frequent consumption of this valuable fruit.
