Abstract

This diploma paper presents gifted students in history class. It deals with gifted students in general, but the main part is devoted to gifted students in history class in primary school. My intention was to present the characteristics of gifted students at history, to present teachers' work with them and to provide the useful guidelines on how to recognize a gifted student. Defining the term "gifted" was not an easy task. Numerous definitions have been suggested, but no single definition of giftedness is accepted by everyone or even by a majority of people. Because so many definitions exist, people often get confused over just what it means to be gifted. Not only that, parents and teachers sometimes find it difficult to recognize a gifted child because of different definitions. In my diploma paper, I presented special subject specification for gifted students in history class and also some other learning and teaching methods for gifted students. I came to a conclusion that parents and teachers should know more about giftedness. Therefore, they could easily recognize a gifted student and they could nourish that giftedness.
