Abstract

Secondary title: A CHILDCARE WORKER AS A PUBLIC SPEAKER
Secondary abstract: Good speakers must be able to communicate not only verbally but also nonverbally. The nonverbal communication is often forgotten although it plays a crucial role at bringing the information forward. Moreover, it is nice to listen to the speaker who is not only able to use words but also has a nice voice, a nice expression on his/her face, a positive poise and erectness and who uses hand gestures to complement the speech. The icing on the cake is his/her appropriate clothing and in case we are standing next to him/her the nice smell. However, it is not only the nonverbal communication that is important. The content of the speech and choosing the right words are of great importance. A good speaker is well prepared to every public appearance. In addition, a childcare worker who communicates with children and parents is a public speaker as well. However, is the childcare worker well qualified for this function after finishing the education? The research made among the students shows that almost half of them fell uncomfortable and nervous when speaking to the public, more than the half of asked students avoids eye contact to the listeners and more than a half of students asked faces a shivery voice or they stammer. Following the results I could say that when educating future childcare workers there are not enough contents and tasks to teach students the basics about public appearance.
