diplomsko delo
Abstract

Some aspects of "Čefur" identity |
Secondary abstract: |
One can easily use the word ''čefur'' in a daily conversation and it mainly functions as a distinguisher between ''us'' and ''them'', who are different. When asked what exactly does the word "čefur" mean, one can not rely upon any official definition. The purpose of diploma Some Aspects of ''Čefur'' Identity was to examine a common perception about who ''čefur'' actually is and what determines his identity, to define the term on the basis of subjective opinions and to show some other ascertainment of a so-called ''čefur identity''. In the theoretical part of diploma I deal with some relevant concepts such as identity, ethnicity, xenophobia, prejudice, migrants, stigmatization, criminalization, delinquency and media. The empirical part of diploma contains a quantitative analysis of data, which is based on polls. Through the research I wanted to find out whom exactly does the word ''čefur'' label, which negative prejudices does it hold and are the negative prejudices influenced by different factors such as age, sex, education and the place of residence. I also wanted to determine the degree of xenophobia among the respondents and to establish whether there is a common belief in the society, that the elements of Balkan culture are infiltrated in the Slovenian culture. I found out that the term brings prejudices in any case, that the individuals of Balkan descent do not approve of it for naming themselves, that it is marked by nationality and the level of adaptation to Slovenian culture and that in some cases the term is also used for the individuals of Slovenian descent. Besides that, the quantitative analysis also showed that the level of xenophobia among the respondents was low, but it also discovered a common belief, that some elements of Balkan culture are infiltrated in Slovenian culture. Results on the influence of the place of residence on prejudices together with the results on statement about ''čefurs'' being disturbing brought me to the question about two patterns of their behavior. |
