Abstract

This chapter is dealing with sexuality during pregnancy. Whereas and focus on the uncomplicated, physiological pregnancy. It will start by briefly summarising the physiological and psychological changes in pregnancy that impact a woman’s sexuality with attention to changing body awareness and changing social roles. Sexuality is also influenced by the partner, the society and culture of the couple. Those elements, however, will get limited attention. Healthcare professionals (HCPs), usually midwives, who have the expertise to guide women through pregnancies, need to address this vital area of sexuality with all its changes for women and couples.
