Abstract

Secondary title: FROM DRAWINGS TO COMICS
Secondary abstract: The present degree paper focuses on the analysis of the work of four artists, i.e. Gustav Klimt, Alfons Mucha, Takehiko Inoue and Tsukasa Hojo. It is based on the presupposition that all four artists have directly or indirectly been influenced by Japanese art which helped them develop their personal style by which they became recognizable in their sphere of creativity. Japonisme, as the impact of Japanese art in Europe in the period following 1860 is termed, has undoubtedly marked Mucha's, as well as Klimt's work with its ornamentalism, elongated lines and vivid colours. Much in the same way the influence of Japanese culture is visible in Hojo's and Inoue's art. In the second part of the degree paper my own drawing style is analysed by reference to the illustrations and drawings which have been collected and published in a publication forming the practical part of my degree paper. In this part I will try to identify the ways in which each of the above mentioned artists has influenced the development of my own drawing style.
