Abstract

Secondary title: Evaluation of investing into a greenhouse at the Frangež farm
Secondary abstract: ǂAn ǂincreased need for fresh and local vegetable production throughout the year makes a controlled environment in a protected space an optimal solution for satisfying consumer needs. Protected spaces enable an earlier production in spring, extend the production in fall and enable it during winter. By correcting the variables that affect the growth, we can ensure optimum conditions and reduce the chances of infection and transmission of disease. In this paper a financial analysis was undertaken to evaluate the feasibility of a greenhouse investment on the Frangež farm. A S.W.O.T analysis was prepared and the hypothesis was that growing produce in a greenhouse is economically viable and that the investment would return within five years with the assumed parameters. The results have shown that growing vegetables in a greenhouse is economically viable because the average value of the economy coefficient is 2,50. The investment does not return in five years with the annual cash flow (ACF = 5.333,08 €) and a 3% interest rate, but in the seventh year (NPV = 54,80 €). The Frangež farm will use the S.W.O.T. analysis and other economic parameters to make further investment decisions
