Vloga prve dame v političnem življenju predsednika Združenih držav Amerike

Abstract

V svojem diplomskem delu sem predstavila družbeno vlogo in položaj prvih dam v Združenih državah Amerike (ZDA) ter njihov vpliv na družbo. Proučila sem razvoj funkcije prve dame vse od začetkov ZDA do danes, njihov formalni in neformalni vpliv in vlogo pri predsedniškem odločanju in tudi drugih političnih odločitvah. Hkrati sta predstavljena tudi feminizem in njegov vpliv v političnem prostoru. Volitve za predsednika države v Združenih državah Amerike so bile in vedno bodo odmevne po celem svetu, prav tako se takrat preusmeri še več pozornosti na prvo damo ZDA. Leta 2020, ko so bile volitve in je odločilna bitka potekala med nekdanjim predsednikom države Donaldom Trumpom in sedanjim Joejem Bidnom, je bilo veliko govora o nekdanji prvi dami ZDA, Melanii Trump. Takrat se je v ameriških medijih večkrat pojavila tudi Slovenija. Čeprav je prva dama v ZDA ena najbolj izpostavljenih oseb, je vloga prve dame pomembna tako v ZDA kot tudi drugod po svetu. Boljše razumevanje vloge prvih dam je pomembno tako za slovenski politični prostor kot tudi za države sodobnega sveta, saj poda informacije o pomembnosti funkcije prve dame, ki ni le predsednikova soproga.

Secondary abstract:	In my dissertation, I presented the social role and position of first ladies in the United States and their impact on society. I have studied the development of the function of first lady from the beginning of the United States to the present day, their formal and informal influence and role in presidential decision-making and also in other political decisions. At the same time, feminism and the influence of feminism in the political space are presented. The election of the President of the United States has been and will always be resonant around the world, and even then more attention is directed to the USA First Lady. In 2020, when there were elections and a decisive battle between former president Donald Trump and current Joe Biden, there was a lot of talk about former US First Lady Melania Trump. At that time, Slovenia also appeared in the American media several times. Although US’s first lady is one of the most resounding, the role of first lady is important in the US and elsewhere in the world. A better understanding of the role of first ladies is important for the Slovenian political space and for the countries of the modern world, as it helps with knowledge of the importance of the function of first lady, not only as the president's wife.
