Abstract

Namen raziskave je analizirati geografsko variabilnost in spolni dimorfizem spodnje čeljustnice velikega hrčka, Cricetus cricetus iz madžarske populacije. Predstavnike velikega hrčka najpogosteje najdemo na območju gozdne in travnate stepe. Na Madžarskem je vrsta dokaj pogosta, vendar število osebkov z leti drastično upada. V naše analize smo vključili 355 spodnjih čeljustnic obeh spolov iz štirih različnih geografskih območjih (Dunaszeg, Tiszavasvári, Balmazújváros, Dunaszentpál). Z metodami geografske morfometrije smo ovrednotili variabilnost oblike in velikosti spodnje čeljustnice.Dokazali smo, da obstajajo statistično značilne razlike v obliki in velikosti spodnje čeljustnice na celotnem vzorcu, zato smo nadaljnje analize naredili ločeno po spolu. Dokazali smo, da sta velikost in oblika spodnje čeljustnice razlikujeta glede na spol in geografsko območje. Samci iz območja Dunaszentpál so imeli največje spodnje čeljusti, pri samicah pa so bile največje iz območja Tiszavasvári. Zaznali smo tudi nekaj osebkov, ki so odstopali od povprečne velikosti, saj so bili zelo veliki ali pritlikavi.

Secondary title: Morphological variability of the mandible of the European hamster, Cricetus cricetus (Linnaeus, 1758) in Hungary
Secondary abstract: The research aims to analyze geographical variation and sexual dimorphism in mandible size and shape of the European hamster, Cricetus cricetus from Hungarian population. European hamsters are most often found in forest steppe and open steppe. In Hungary, the species is quite common, but population size is slowly declining. Our research was based on 355 hemimandibles of both sexes from four geographical locations (Dunaszeg, Tiszavasvári, Balmazújváros, Dunaszentpál). With the geometric morphometrics methods, we evaluated the variability in size and shape of the mandible. Our results retrieved statistically significant differences among different geographical locations and between sexes. We therefore separeted material regarding the sex. Mandible was on average slightly larger in males from Dunaszentpál and in females from Tiszavasvári. We conclud that variability of size and shape of European hamsters depends on gender and location. Our results also retrieved a couple of individuals, who differed from average size, either being much bigger or smaller then average specimens.
