Abstract

Secondary title: Dance-movement stories on the spring theme
Secondary abstract: In the thesis dance-movement stories are presented with the aim of learning about the characteristics of spring, where I researched how observing phenomena in nature helps children express themselves through dance and how children respond to dance-movement stories in connection with the theme of spring on outdoor surfaces and in indoor spaces. In the theoretical part, I first presented the field of dance and how dance is defined in the curriculum for kindergartens. I defined the creative movement, where I also described interdisciplinary integration. I described the importance of movement for the child's development, influence and effects of dance in the preschool period. I presented movement-dance creation in connection with natural science by showing how the basics of dance are manifested in various activities, from the first to the seventh year. At the end, I described the dance-movement stories and the comparison between the external and internal environment, their implementation and the educators role. The activities in the empirical work refer to the investigation of children's response to dance-movement stories in the external and internal environment. As part of the research, which took place over three weeks, I carried out six different activities. A workflow and evaluation is written for each activity. My aim is for the children to learn about different phenomena in nature that occur in spring days through activities and to encourage them to express themselves through dance. I found that dance-movement stories positively helped children to learn about the characteristics of spring and that children relax and calm down much easily in an outdoor environment and follow dance-movement activities more easily than in an indoor space.
