diplomsko delo

Abstract

Filmi predstavljajo enega izmed osrednjih načinov produciranja in reproduciranja družbenih ideologij, mitov, stereotipov in predsodkov.

Secondary title: Sociological reflection of stereotypes and prejudices toward Romani people in film representations
Secondary abstract: Films are one of the central methods for production and reproduction of social ideologies, myths, stereotypes and prejudices. This diploma thesis contains a film representations analysis of Romani people, more precisely how are these images connected to stereotypes and prejudices toward Romanies. Analysis material includes films that in a whole present Romani people members. The Roma ethnic minority is facing discrimination by the majority population in many areas. Their integration into majority society is made harder as the majority has stereotypical views and prejudices about them. Media can help preserving these views, among them also television and films. Six films were used for the study. The only film in the Slovene language was Halgato, directed by Andrej Mlakar, other films are from the countries of the former Yugoslavia - Zbiralci perja, directed by Aleksandar Petrović, Ciganska čarovnija, directed by Stole Popov, Dom za obešanje and Črna mačka, beli mačkon, directed by Emir Kusturica and Kdo to tam poje, directed by Slobodan Šijan. In the analysis I used methods for analysing visual texts and critical discursive analysis that is a qualitative method of social science research. With the analysis of films about Romanies I established that film images present Romani people stereotypically and thus preserve and increase prejudices of majority society toward this group, as viewers do not create critical distance toward presented contents.
