Abstract

Mesto Ptuj je zaradi bogate kulturne zgodovine prava umetnostna zakladnica in kulturni biser. Upravičeno slovi kot eno izmed najstarejših in najlepših mest na Slovenskem. V diplomski nalogi je predstavljena kratka kulturna zgodovina mesta Ptuj in njegove znamenitosti. Mesto je geografsko orisano, predstavljen je njegov nastanek in razvoj. Opisani sta najbogatejši obdobji ptujske naselitvene zgodovine, čas rimske kolonizacije in visokega srednjega veka, arheološka najdišča, cerkve, samostani, znamenja in javni spomeniki, kulturne in izobraževalne ustanove ter njihova vloga v mestu Ptuj. Posebno mesto zasedajo tradicionalne ptujske prireditve in obrt. Predstavljen je narodnoobrambni boj za ohranitev slovenskega naroda, jezika in kulture v ptujski "nemški trdnjavi". Omenjene so osebnosti, ki so imele pomembno vlogo v kulturnem življenju in razvoju mesta Ptuj. V diplomski nalogi je uporabljena deskriptivna raziskovalna metoda, pri osebah in zgodovinskih dejstvih pa zgodovinska metoda.

Secondary abstract:	Due to its opulent cultural history, the town of Ptuj is a genuine art treasury and cultural jewel. It is renowned as one of the oldest and most attractive towns in Slovenia. I have delivered a short cultural history of the town and its sights. The town is described geographically and its origin and development are presented. A detailed description is placed on the town's two most affluent periods of historical colonization, the time of Roman colonization and the High Middle Ages, archaeological sites, churches, monasteries, marks and public monuments, cultural and educational buildings and their role in the town of Ptuj. A special emphasis is put on the town's public performances and trade. The presentation of the struggle for the preservation of the Slovene people, language and culture in the Ptuj's 'German fortress' is given as well as the names of the people who had an important role in the cultural life and development of Ptuj. I have employed a descriptive research method and a historical method when discussing persons and historical facts.
