Abstract

Podatke o spolu, starosti in telesni samopodobi smo dobili s pomočjo poslovenjene različice francoske verzije vprašalnika za ugotavljanje telesne samopodobe mladostnikov The Physical Self-Inventory - short form.

Secondary title: COMPARISON OF PHYSICAL FITNESS AND PHYSICAL SELF-CONCEPT BETWEEN URBAN AND RURAL CHILDREN
Secondary abstract: The aim of our research was to establish whether there is a correlation between the movement efficiency of children from different living environments and their physical self-concept. The research included 630 children from northeastern part of Slovenia, aged from 9 to 11 years. There were 311 boys and 319 girls among them. The measurements took place in some of the elementary schools of northwestern Slovenia. Six tests of the testing battery Euro fit were used to measure the movement efficiency, plus a supplementary test: walking through a hoop backwards. The Slovene translation of the French version questionnaire The Physical Self- Inventory - short form was used to obtain the information about sex, age and physical self-concept. To define the correlation between the individual movement capacities and the physical self-concept the regression analysis was used. The statistically important differences were determined on the risk level of p%0,05. The results show that the correlation between physical self-concept and movement capacities is statistically characteristic for boys from all living environments (towns, suburbs and country) - it shows in the aerobic endurance and coordination of the whole body. We have come to the conclusion that it is the aerobic endurance that has the most important influence on the physical self-concept of rural boys, while it is the coordination of the whole body that influences the physical self-concept of urban boys. A correlation between the physical self-concept and the movement capacities is statistically characteristic only for girls from suburbs. Our conclusion is that it is the explosive power that exerts the most important influence on the physical self-concept of suburban girls.
