Abstract

Because of the anthropocentricity of language, nominal compounds within the semantic group of 'live' are very frequent, and consequently, very diverse according to the word forming affixes. The article deals with derivatives within the semantic group of 'property holder', being deadjectival compounds denoting 'live' (mostly human-like, rarely animallike). Taking into account the following three sources, namely Pleteršnik Slovenian-German Dictionary (Slovensko-nemški slovar; PS 1894/95), Dictionary of Standard Slovenian (Slovar slovenskega knjižnega jezika; SSKJ 1998) and Recent Slovenian Lexicon in Conjunction with the Online Language Resources (Novejša slovenska leksika v povezavi s spletnimi jezikovnimi viri; NSLSJV 2009) - the last one brings the survey of the current lexicon of contemporary Slovene -, the dynamics of productive development of this semantic group of male formants of the Slovenian language in the late 19th through 20th and to the beginning of the 21st century is presented. The material shows that the continuity of the semantic group of 'property holder' in all three sources comprises of five word forming affixes, sorted in alphabetical order -ak, -jak, -ec, -ež and -ik, but according to their productivity in all three sources the difference could be noticed regarding their classification only. The survey shows (1) that the presented semantic group of compounds is generically originated from exclusively domestic word forming morphemes and (2) in comparison to some other groups it is not affected by adoption of foreign word forming affixes.
