diplomsko delo
Abstract
Uporabili smo opisno metodo dela. Literaturo smo iskali v mednarodnih podatkovnih bazah PubMed, CINAHL (EBSCO), ScienceDirect in Cochrane Library ter dodatno s pomočjo brskalnika Google Scholar. Izbor virov smo predstavili v PRISMA diagramu.

The effect of exercise on disease control by patients with Tourette´s syndrome |
Secondary abstract: |
Introduction: Tourette's syndrome is a common neuropsychiatric disorder that involves a large number of comorbid mental disorders in addition to the main symptoms of vocal and motor tics. Physical exercise is increasingly recommended as part of the treatment of children and adolescents with mental health disorders. In the final part of the study, we investigated whether physical exercise has an impact on disease management in patients with Tourette syndrome.
Methods: We conducted a literature review using the descriptive method. The literature was searched in the international databases PubMed, CINAHL (EBSCO), ScienceDirect, and Cochrane Library in addition to Google Scholar. We presented the selection of sources in PRISMA diagram. We conducted descriptive data synthesis.
Results: Of the 29 studies, we included 6 in the final analysis. We found that regular participation in physical activity can improve tics even at higher intensities, but that tics can return to baseline after discontinuation of chronic physical activity.
Discussion and conclusion: Regular physical activity reduces the severity of tics, even at higher intensities. Several physiological mechanisms may explain the different effects of acute and regular physical activity in Tourette syndrome. Future research should investigate the effects of different intensities and types of physical activity on tic symptomatology. Research should also better define other components of exercise prescription, such as duration and frequency of exercise, in individuals with Tourette syndrome. |
