Abstract

V magistrskem delu v uvodu predstavimo pristop pisanja infrastrukture kot kode ter principe računalništva v oblaku. Naredimo pregled ponujenih storitev ponudnika AWS (Amazon Web Services) in se osredotočimo na orkestratorje vsebnikov Amazon EKS (Elastic Kubernetes Service) in ECS (Elastic Container Service) ter naredimo primerjavo med njima. Opišemo upravljanje z infrastrukturo v oblaku z uporabo orodja AWS Cloudformation in AWS CDK (Cloud Development Kit). V nadaljevanju podamo potrebe podjetja in navedemo razloge za modernizacijo infrastrukture. Natančneje si ogledamo nekaj problemov, kot so organizacija infrastrukturne kode z AWS CDK, pristop k posodabljanju infrastrukture, implementacija avtomatskega skaliranja, ter upravljanje s podatkovno bazo s katerimi smo se soočili tekom migracije in predstavimo izbrane rešitve in razloge za njih. Z vpeljavo najsodobnejših oblačnih storitev in dobrih praks uspemo doseči bolj zanesljivo strežniško infrastrukturo, ki potrebuje manj operativnega dela, poenostavimo uporabljanje in postavljanje infrastrukturnega sklada razvijalcem programske opreme ter zmanjšamo stroške najemanja infrastrukture v oblaku.

Secondary abstract: In the introduction to the master thesis we present the approach of writing infrastructure as code and cloud computing principles. An overview of cloud services by AWS (Amazon Web Services) is provided with the focus on container orchestration services Amazon EKS (Elastic Kubernetes Service) and ECS (Elastic Container Service) and a comparison between the two is done. We explain how to manage cloud infrastructure using AWS Cloudformation and AWS CDK (Cloud Development Kit). Then the company goals and reasons for infrastructure moderinzation are given. We present an in-depth examination of some challenges that arose during the implementation, such as infrastructure code organization using AWS CDK, deployment strategies, automatic scaling implementation and database managment with the solutions outlined and reasoning behind them explained. Using bleeding edge cloud services and best practices we successfully implement a more reliable cloud infrastructure, that requires less operational work, simplifies using and deploying the infrastructure stack to software developers while also reducing cloud services costs.
