Abstract
Telesne mere otrok so bile izmerjene z uporabo antropometričnega instrumentarija, za meritve deleža maščevja, mase brez maščevja in vode smo uporabili analizator sestave telesa Maltron BF-907.

RELATIONS BETWEEN BODY MEASUREMENTS INDICATING OBESITY IN CHILDREN |
Secondary abstract: |
The purpose of the study was to establish possible correlations between body measurements aimed to determine overweight in children between nine and eleven years of age. 630 children from the north-eastern part of Slovenia in age group from 9 to 11 participated in the study, among them 311 boys and 319 girls, out of which 202 nine-year olds, 217 ten-year olds and 211 eleven-year olds. The measurements were taken at the following primary schools: Franc Rozman Stane and Tone Čufar (both in Maribor), Markovci, Cirkulane-Zavrč, Gustav Šilih (in Laporje) and Šmarje pri Jelšah. The body measures were taken by anthropometric instruments and Body Composition Analyser Malron BF-907 was used for measuring fat percentage, fat-free body mass and water. Pearson correlation coefficient was used to establish correlation of particular body measurements and body composition measurements. Statistical significance was established at risk levels 0,01 and 0,05 (p < 0,01, p < 0,05). The results show that correlation coefficients between body measurements are prevailingly very high and statistically significant. Disregarding the gender and the age of the group the highest correlation was established for anthropometric measurement variables indicating overweight and obesity, i. e. body weight, body mass index, waist circumference and triceps skin fold variables. These measurements also characteristically correlated with body fat, the proportion of which was established by bioelectrical impedance analysis method. On the average, the highest correlation with other body measurements was found with the body mass index, which is most frequently used by experts for determining overweight and is also recommended by The Expert Committee on the Assessment, Prevention, and Treatment of Child and Adolescent Overweight and Obesity and The European Childhood Obesity Group (ECOG). |
