Abstract

Secondary title: NAZISM, ART, ARTWORK: THE FATE OF EUROPE'S CULTURAL HERITAGE DURING WORLD WAR II.
Secondary abstract: The following thesis deals with the fate of European's cultural heritage before, during and after World War II. The aim is to present the Nazi's attitude towards art, its perverse policy and a campaign against the dissidents in the art and the miserable fate of many works of art on European grounds during World War II. At the height of Nazi's power, they took possession of many art collections in a public and a private property, mostly from Jewish property throughout Europe. They are responsible and guilty for the biggest "crime" ever commited by any national system against cultural heritage. The process of the restitution started after the war, and it has been still dealing with many unresolved cases about the ownership of artworks. Even Slovenia is no exception in this case. The theme about missing artworks is still a taboo, and in the near future there is also not seen any clear indication that things woul change into a positive way.
