diplomsko delo
Abstract

Children with special needs in selected works of young adult literature |
Secondary abstract: |
In my undergraduate dissertation with the title Children with special needs in selected works of young adult literature I was trying to find out whether the analysed texts are realistic and compared the stories of the protagonists to reality. In the first part I presented groups of children with special needs as well as every disorder that occurred in the selected texts and linked it to a text from the field of young adult literature. I also discussed the possibilities in education of children with special needs and came to the conclusion that there is an increasing number of children with special needs who are involved in regular forms of education and schooling. The need for assistants who offer physical help to children with special needs is therefore greater. One of the most frequent adjustments which is offered to these children is the additional professional help, where the task of professionals is to find the most successful methods of working with children with special needs. The second part comprises of the analysis of narrative texts in young adult literature: Svetlana Makarovič: Veveriček posebne sorte (2007), Lesley Ely: Luka je med nami (2004), Janja Vidmar: Moja Nina (2004), Aksinja Kermauner: Tema ni en črn plašč (2001) and Berenikini kodri (2006), David Hill: Se vid'va Simon! (2004) and Mark Haddon: Skrivnostni primer ali kdo je umoril psa (2003). My conclusion is that these texts are highly ethical and aesthetic; what is more, they have a component of insight and written realistically, which means that we can learn a lot about children disorders from the mentioned books. In the texts I looked for indicators of disorders and placed the protagonists from the stories within the legal classification. With their stories the authors of the selected works bring diseases or disorders that we encounter in everyday life closer to us. |
