magistrsko delo
Abstract
Izhodišča: V sklopu magistrske naloge smo raziskovali genetsko svetovanje in testiranje v Sloveniji. Glede pričakovanih posledic genetskega razvoja v naslednjih 10. do 15. letih so najbolj zaskrbljeni srednje izobraženi, mlajši odrasli, moški.

Attitudes of Slovenian residents towards genetic testing |

Background: In the context of the master thesis, we studied genetic counselling and testing in Slovenia. We examined the effects of selected factors (gender, age, education, parenthood and previous experience with genetic testing) on the respondents' definition of their expectations of genetic testing, their opinion on the availability of genetic testing, their level of concern about the possible consequences of genetic testing, and their opinion on the expected consequences of the development of genetic testing in the next 10 to 15 years. The study aimed to investigate the impact of genetic counselling and testing on the respondents' perception of the availability of genetic testing and the extent to which they are concerned about the possible consequences of genetic testing. Method: The methods used in the analysis were descriptive statistical analysis, bivariate methods to analyse the association of variables, testing the hypotheses of the equality of means across groups, and multivariate statistical methods. We used hierarchical clustering to classify respondents into several groups based on their opinions on genetic testing and then checked for differences among them regarding both views and demographic factors. Results: Middle-aged adults have higher expectations about the personal benefits of genetic testing than younger and older adults. Less educated respondents have higher expectations about the availability of genetic testing. Medium educated, younger adults and men are most concerned about the expected consequences of genetic development in the next 10 to 15 years. Research on people's knowledge, opinions and attitudes about genetic counselling and testing is essential for improving awareness of the role and importance of genetic counselling and testing, both for the individual and in the broader societal context. |
