Abstract

Opazovali smo etologijo želve, popisovali spolno in starostno strukturo populacije, njeno številčnost in razširjenost. Želve so najbolj aktivne v popoldanskem in večernem času. Samice so večje in težje od samcev.

Secondary title: BIOLOGY OF TESTUDO HERMANNI HERCEGOVINENSIS (WERNER, 1899) ON THE ISLAND PAG
Secondary abstract: We examined some of the biological properties of the Dalmatian tortoise Testudo hermann hercegovinensis (Werner, 1899), who lives on the island of Pag in central Dalmatia. Dalmatian tortoise belongs to a family of terrestrial turtles (Testudinidea). The thesis presents the results of observation and study the biology of turtles in the Dalmatian region of north-western part of the island. We studied the behavioral habits of this species, described the sexual and age structure of population, its abundance and distribution. More specifically, we focus on the presentation of secondary sexual dimorphism of shell shape and size. The study included 52 specimens, which we found in the overgrown parts of the west coast of the island Pag. Turtles are most active in the afternoon and evening hours. Females are larger and heavier than males.
