Abstract

Diplomsko delo obravnava značilnosti prsti v Mariboru. V teoretičnem delu smo preučevali razvoj mestnih prsti, njihov pomen in funkcije ter same definicije pojma mestne oz. urbane prsti in sorodnih pojmov. Empirični del naloge zajema terensko delo (odvzem vzorcev prsti s svedrom in vzorčenje prsti) in laboratorijsko delo (določanje fizikalnih in kemijskih lastnosti vzorcev prsti).

Secondary title: Soils in Maribor
Secondary abstract: The diploma addresses characteristics of soils in Maribor. Soil characteristics and its beginnings have been thoroughly researched in the past. Pedogeography as science which addresses formation, development and importance of soil in the city, is fairly new. In Slovenia, research is just in development and that is why majority of used literature regarding city soils was in English language. In the theoretical part, we studied development of city soils, their meaning and functions and the term "city soil", along with other related notions. One of the first researchers who defined the notion "city soil" is Bockheim. He defined city soil as "Soil, consisted of non-agrarian, artificially created surface layer, more than 50 cm thick and created as a consequence of mixture, filling, or polluting an area in urban and suburban environment." There are several definitions and classifications of city soils which were considered in the diploma. With the diploma we aimed, next to theoretical examination of city soils, to define or research the level of influence of people and human activities on soils in Maribor. The empirical part of the diploma consists of field work (sample retrieval and soil sampling) and laboratory work (determining physical and chemical characteristics of samples). For profile analysis of the soil, we selected five land use-based locations, and we took two samples from different depths (ca. 10 cm and 20 cm) on each location. By analyzing these samples, we acquired physical and chemical characteristics of soils in Maribor. Based on analysis results, we summarized the common characteristics. Human influence could not be determined directly from these results; that is the reason why we determined human influence on soil based on type of soil particles and on location.
