magistrsko delo

Abstract

Secondary title: Carinthian Painting of the Late International Soft Style in the Slovene Lands
Secondary abstract: The painting of the Late International Soft Style originates from the Austrian region of Carinthia, more precisely from the workshop of Master Friedrich of Villach. Even in the Slovene lands, it represents one of the most important trends in fresco painting of the mid-15th century. The Master's Thesis is conceived as the first independent comprehensive synthesis regarding the topic of Late International Soft Style wall paintings in the Slovene lands. Within this context, the greatest emphasis is placed on the wall painting of modern-day Carniola and the works of the Master of Srednja vas and the Master of Žirovnica, the local protagonists of their time. As a result, Johannes of Ljubljana is not discussed in detail. His work is deliberately left aside because as the best-studied painter with the largest oeuvre, he would demand the lion's share of attention at the expense of the other masters of the Late International Soft Style. The goal of the thesis is also to compile an up-to-date overview of the thesis topic and to gather all of the available information in one place, as well as to include all the pertinent wall paintings, new discoveries, and to challenge the current knowledge and established beliefs regarding the Master of Srednja vas, the Master of Žirovnica, and regarding some individual examples of wall painting cycles and selected problems.
