Abstract

Secondary title: Solvency II and the impact on the insurance market
Secondary abstract: Solvency II was created because some insurers were too sensitive to adverse and unpredictable events in the environment, and Solvency I was deemed inappropriate for the current global world in 2002. Solvency II is a set of regulatory requirements for insurance companies and other insurance service providers in the European Union. It was introduced in 2016 and is designed to ensure that insurers have sufficient capital and risk management measures to protect policyholders and the wider financial system. The Directive aims to improve the overall stability and soundness of the European insurance industry by promoting appropriate risk management practices and ensuring that insurers are able to withstand financial shocks and crises.
