diplomsko delo
Abstract

ACTIVITIES AND THERAPY SUPPORTED BY ANIMALS - INCLUSION OF THERAPEUTIC DOG IN EDUCATIONAL PROCESS |
Secondary abstract: |
Animal-assisted activities and therapy are based on the relationship between a human being and an animal. The activities and therapies of this kind can involve almost all animal species. Among those most commonly used in our country are dogs that are very close to us and are generally very social animals. The sphere of implementation of animal-assisted activities and therapies is wide, ranging from prevention, support, companionship to real therapy. The goal of the present thesis is to present the introduction of a therapy dog in an educational process at the kindergarten for children with special needs, to expose the strong and weak points of these children and to find out what effects are produced in various dog-assisted activities. The research consisted of an observation of the examples provided by a pattern of five children with special needs (SN), two of them with Autistic spectrum disorders (ASD), and of an interview based on a pattern of a therapy dog female-guide who is implementing a dog-assisted reading program for children with speech- and reading disorders. The results have shown that children with SN share some common features, as for instance the difficulties in the sphere of communication, as well as some specific difficulties and abilities that make these kids special. The dog-assisted activities can be performed for all children at the same time and can be the same for all children. However, they can also be adapted to individual needs of children and can influence and help to meet positive effects in different spheres, as for instance in the sphere of communication, social interaction, attention and motor skills. We can conclude that animal-assisted activities and therapy are considerably more successful and they make the participants feel better. |
