Abstract

Secondary title: YOUTH PARTICIPATION IN POLITICS IN SLOVENIA
Secondary abstract: The youth in Slovenia represent an important social group that formally and informally participates in different political acts. Despite the fact shown by public opinion analyses that involvement in politics is low, the young are not passive. On the contrary, they use new forms of political involvement, such as signing petitions, holding demonstrations, forming different movements, etc. Although the youth want to participate in social reforms, they have vividly distanced themselves from formal forms of political participation in the last decade. Key factors for the situation are distrust of politics and political elite, doubting the legitimacy of work of the student's organisations and decreasing membership in youth organizations. Gender and age do not affect the political involvement of the youth. We need to find out the reasons why there is a decline in participation of the youth in Slovenia as well as changes in values system and general passiveness of the Slovenian society.
