Abstract

Secondary title: Comparison of compositions by the composers Clara Josephine Wieck Schumann and Fanny Cäcilie Hensel Mendelssohn
Secondary abstract: The master's thesis entitled Comparison of solo songs by the composers Clara Wieck Schumann and Fanny Cäcilia Hensel Mendelssohn pays the most attention to the composers Clara Schumann, wife of Robert Schumann, and Fanny Mendelssohn, sister of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, who were quite neglected during the Romantic era. In addition to the comparison of the composition of solo songs, in this master's thesis I also devote myself to the research and analysis of their lives and common meetings throughout their lives. The master's thesis shows the compositional, theoretical and conceptual importance of two important female composers in the area of Germany during the Romantic era, who unfortunately were not as prominent in that period as other composers from the 19th century. With a detailed harmonic analysis, we can point out different ways of perceiving and understanding the chosen text for solo singing, as well as the inner feelings that can be recognized within the harmonic analysis of the individual works of both composers. Methodologically, the master's thesis consists of two mutually complementary principles: the search for archival sources about the life and compositional methods of Clara Josephine Wieck Schumann and Fanny Cäcilia Hensel Mendelssohn, and the search for archival sources of sheet music collections of solo songs by both composers for harmonic or compositional comparison and analysis.
