Abstract

Secondary abstract: This master thesis deals with the important topic of digital transformation and its impact on the sustainable development of companies. We started with three hypotheses, which we examined by analysing the available literature. It offers insights into the complex web of digital transformation and sustainable development and highlights the importance of a thoughtful approach in both areas for successful and sustainable organisations. We have also identified the key challenges and barriers that companies face when integrating sustainability and digital operations. These challenges include the difficulty of adopting new technologies, adapting business models, the need for continuous training of employees and changes in organisational culture. Our research has also shown that a successful sustainability transformation requires a holistic approach that integrates technological and business concerns as well as corporate social responsibility. We have also highlighted the importance of careful leadership and governance in the process of digital transformation and sustainability. Organisations that have successfully combined these aspects are perceived as more innovative and have a competitive advantage as well as the ability to adapt to rapid changes in the market. The three hypotheses that we have established at the beginning of the study and that derived from the objectives we set out, were confirmed by the complex interplay between digital transformation and sustainable development. However, there is a wealth of other accompanying technologies, strategies and concepts that companies face on their journey towards sustainable business.
