Secondary title: | Analysis of stress concentrations in climbing ropes using finite element method |
Secondary abstract: | In the laboratory for mechanical elements, we performed tensile failure tests on new and used climbing ropes. A simulation of tensile tests was created in the Abaqus program. The rope experiences stress concentrations at the point of contact with the carabiner, which lead to the failure of the new rope at the contact point. Due to degradation and wear on certain parts, the used rope has reduced load-bearing capacity, resulting in failure at the point of minimum load capacity. The stress concentration factor is smaller than the degradation factor on the rope’s load capacity. |
